GruppenunterkĂĽnfte in Sevenum

Sevenum is a place in the Limburg municipality of Horst on the Meuse. The core Sevenum has nearly 6,500 inhabitants. This makes Horst the second largest place in the municipality. Until January 1, 2010, Sevenum was a municipality, formed by the cores Sevenum, Kronenberg and Evertsoord.

Sevenum has traditionally been an agricultural village (esdorp). Already in the Bronze and Iron Age there was some occupation, as evidenced by a number of findings from that period. The oldest document in which Sevenum is called is a letter of departure from 1317 which also mentions the patron saints of the church: Fabianus and Sebastianus. Sebastianus also sees in Sevenum's arms and symbolic in the flag.

In 1674, Sevenum became an independent glory, belonging to the Overijssel of Gelre or Spanish Upper Gelre. During the Spanish Succession War, the area was occupied by Prussian troops, and as a part of Prussian Upper Gelre remained German for about a century until the arrival of the French troops in 1794. In this French era, Sevenum was joined to Horst (1800 ). By Royal Decree of Leopold I of Belgium in 1836, Sevenum was divorced again from Horst as an independent municipality.

From 1745 (in principle still on a small scale) began the exploitation of the desolate soils. From 1938 the mining process was dealt with, resulting in a new church village: Evertsoord (completed in 1959).
